Homecoming 2021: A Year Like No Other

It has been 2 years since students have been able to gather together for the Homecoming tradition and this year the energy was unmatched. Students had fun bringing back many festivities and didn’t miss a Spartan beat. All campuses were invited to join in on the fun, all the way from the Early Childhood Center through the High School.

The entire week of Homecoming is considered Spirit Week particularly for the high school students, who are encouraged to dress as a theme every day of the week. Themes this year were Nerds vs. Jocks, Generation Day, Who Am I?, Throwback, and Color Wars.

Additionally, Stafford MSD welcomed the community to join in on the fun ahead of the game at a parade and pep rally. Our mighty Spartan band and JROTC led the way around the entire complex, and the parade was filled to the brim with art, face paint, and Spartan pride. The city of Stafford, SMSD Board of Trustees, students and staff were flanked on all sides by students’ cheering and clapping.

This paved the way for 20-17 victory against the Columbia Roughnecks.

After the amazing win against West Columbia, Stafford Spartan Senior Nick Rideau #41 linebacker was coming back from not one, but two major injures on his wrist and ankle that took him off the field for 6 weeks.

He did an interview after the game, ‘’[Six weeks is] a very long time for someone who loves football and just loves to compete.”

Rideau was visibly excited about coming back on the field and got 10 tackles in the game. He said, ‘’ It felt good to walk through the tunnel and see the people in the stands and I just wanted to put on a show for y’all.’’

Senior Athletic Trainer Jessie Jacobs said ‘’ I am very happy to see him out there on the field looking almost 100% and just too see him back in action because he has been itching to get back out there. He has been putting in work while he was out.’’

Nick is strong, he works hard, and he clearly loves the game. The same can be said for all our Spartans that when the going gets rough, Spartans get tough, and try to make every chance mean something. The crowd that night saw Nick Rideau turn his set back into a comeback.

Congratulations to the 2021 King Macario Aleman and Queen Stacey Amako!
