Congratulations are in order for the 2021-2022 Stafford Boys Soccer team as they finished the year with an overall record of 20-6-4, 12-1-1 district record, and a UIL State Tournament berth! The team sealed the season as District Champions, and Region 3-4A Champions.

The Spartans were battle tested throughout the playoffs, winning two matches in penalty kicks. Despite being defeated by eventual State Champions Boerne High School in the semifinals, the 2021-2022 team was the first in program history to advance to the UIL State Tournament.

Head Coach Ruben Perez and Assistant Coach Abel Maldonado gave high praise to the team’s senior class, who were heavy contributors to the season's success. A majority of the 15 student athletes have been in the program since their freshman year of high school and left a lasting impression, and big shoes to fill, for all who will come after them.

Several Spartans were recognized for their excellent play and hard work throughout the season as recipients of year-end awards. Coach Ruben Perez was named the District 24-4A Coach of the Year, as well as being named the Region 3-4A Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches (TASCO).

Seniors Daniel Torres and Aron Maldonado were named Defensive and Co-Offensive MVP by District 24-4A coaches. Seniors Justin Zenteno and Rudy Alvarado, as well as Sophomores Ivan Maldonado and Jonathan Rivas were named All-District First Team players. Seniors Nahom Sweet and Oscar Hernandez, Junior Jefferson Nolasco, and Sophomore Jonathan Rincones were named to the Second Team. Seniors Mohammad Rahmati, Chiedozie Ehileme, and Octavio Carrera, and Sophomore Xavier Solomon were recognized as Honorable Mention.

Our athletes were also recognized by TASCO as being among the best in Texas. Ivan Maldonado and Justin Zenteno were named First and Second Team All-State, respectively. While Aron Maldonado and Daniel Torres were named First Team All-Region.

Additionally, Justin Zenteno has been selected to play in the TASCO Senior showcase in San Antonio on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Region 3 will play Region 4 at 3:30 p.m. at Blossom Athletic Complex (12002 Jones Maltsberger Rd., San Antonio, TX 78216). Tickets may be purchased by visiting our Athletic Tickets webpage here.

The Spartans will look to reload for next year’s campaign and continue their quest of a state championship!
