A back-and-forth game featuring four lead changes ended with the Spartans beating Sealy High School 28-27 for the second consecutive year.
After giving up a touchdown early in the first quarter, the Spartans responded with two touchdown runs by Juniors Terrance Woods and Jamaal Wiley. The defense would force two turnovers during the second and third quarters. Senior Javon Rhodes had a touchdown saving interception and Seniors Braylen Collins and Ashton Miller combined to force and recover a fumble. Late in the fourth quarter, Sealy would respond with a touchdown run of their own to even the score at 14 to end regulation.
During the overtime periods, Wiley and Senior Brayden Batiste added two more rushing touchdowns. Senior Stephen Powell’s interception on Sealy’s failed two-point conversion attempt in the second overtime secured a 28-27 Spartan victory.
This victory moves the Stafford High School football team to 2-1 on the year.
Stafford returns to action on Friday, September 16 for the Homecoming Game against Lamar Consolidated High School at 7:00 p.m. inside the SHS Football Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
